Lifestyle Courses and Blogs
How do you incentivize users to spend more time on online courses?
The Challenge
When WisdomTimes approached us, they had just recently launched their online blog website. However, one of the challenges early on was getting users to spend more time on the website reading and sharing articles. The second was the need to add several modules to the website that had been heavily requested by their users. In summary, we were tasked to:
- - Redesign a couple of parts of the existing website
- - Reduce latency as a portion of the user base accessed via lower internet speeds
- - Launch new functionality including courses, quizzes, and quotes
Our Approach
After receiving the brief, our first step was to analyze the patterns and demographics of the existing user base. By doing this analysis and thinking just like the users we were going to be designing for would, we were able to determine exactly how to proceed with development.
We started with the redesign as this allowed us to optimize the codebase in preparation for adding new features. To allow for faster load times, we drastically reduced the number of requests be made by the website and optimized the large number of assets (images and external styling and javascript files) that the website had been using. We also implemented a content delivery network and a cache policy for even lesser response times.
The Results
With a new redesign, we immediately got positive feedback from the website users. Engagement shot up rapidly, and unlike previously where a spike in the number of active users resulted in slower page load times, this time the website kept running smoothly.
